Mad Scientists, Cyborgs and Aliens...Oh My!

This week Zombie vs Shark sits down to discuss science fiction and how it has evolved since the advent of film and television. As the crew touched on the many facets of sci-fi, it became very apparent that more than one episode would be needed to cover this topic properly. So expect more sci-fi themed episodes in the future.
For now, we provide for your geekdom; an introductory course, if you will, on all things sci-fi. Follow us as we discuss popular TV, books, movies, etc. Many of which are standards in the libraries of fans across the world.
We also have a brief descripton of the San Diego International Comic Con experience from Jaye's lil hate buddy. It was his very first experience at a con and he chose the mother of all cons to attend first, so listen to 'Barely Got Defined As People' to hear what he had to say (and check out some pictures below).
For future sci-fi topics please leave a post here or contact us via email and your pick may become an entire episode of Zombie vs Shark. Before we leave you with this week's episode, a special thank you must go to Tony's hot wife Cathy (@caminogirl13) who stepped in when Joe became sick with some undiagnosed illness. We are pretty sure it's the plague, but don't worry he should be back next week. Thanks Cathy, and get well soon Joe!

Welcome To The World Of Tomorrow!

It's funny that when we decide to record an episode about entertainment mediums and advancements in how we get our entertainment, that we here at Zombie vs Shark end up having technical difficulties. Due to some unexpected, immediate repairs at Plan B Studios we had to go mobile. So this week's episode has some audio 'noise' that some may find distracting. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and promise that next week's episode will be back to normal.
So, despite the technical difficulties we had, we hope you all enjoy this week's episode 'Right Next To My Pager' and we would love to hear your thoughts as well on the subject. Simply post a comment here on the website or email us at the email listed below.

You're gonna love it in an Instant...

I know on the podcast we mention Netflix Instant Watch A LOT! And deservedly so. If you folks are movie fans and DON’T have Netflix Instant Watch what exactly are you waiting for?

So as you can tell I have watched tons of flicks on Netflix Instant Watch lately. But rather than drone on and on about each film I am gonna give you my “Instant Reviews” (3 sentences or less on each films)

VANISHING ON 7TH STREET
This was such an awesome concept that I couldn’t wait to see this flick. Hayden Christensen sucks the life out of his performance and makes the audience not care if he makes it or not. All in all it could’ve been a really good film that just fell short.

BREAST PICTURE
It’s an entertaining little flick that works on a few different levels. The acting is just okay but the writing more then makes up for it.

2001 MANIACS: FIELD OF SCREAMS
Did the original really need a sequel? And this time NO Robert Englund. Not even as much gore and nudity that made the first one at least a little funny.

BLACKBALLED: THE BOBBY DUKES STORY
This mockumentary is a combination of TALLADEGA NIGHTS and THIS IS SPINAL TAP, however it falls more toward the Talladega Nights. Very little actual comedy but at least what little comedy there is, is actually funny.

VISIONEERS
I loved loved loved this Dark Comedy, but then again Dark Comedy is sort of my thing. A well crafted story that is directed terrific.

PAUL MCCARTNEY REALLY IS DEAD
This “documentary” is shot and claims to be real. For a conspiracy theorist it was a creepy fun flick. For a Beatle fan it was a laughable mess.

KNOCKAROUND GUYS
Was I supposed to give a crap about any of these characters, I did feel for Seth Green but mainly because I like Seth Green. Just another run of the mill crab mobster flick.

FINDING BLISS
It’s a well made film that has some humor in it (lots of attempts at it at least). Directed well with descent acting. But overall it feels like a glossy version of the far superior (and much funnier) SLIPPERY SLOPE (sadly not on Netflix Instant Watch, yet).

DEAD END
Ray Wise gives you what he always does a solid clever performance. It is darkly funny in parts and down right creepy in others. If it was just a little better made it’d been perfect.

THE TEN
This was an amazing dark comedy that felt like a live sketch comedy performance done with famous friends. It’s a lot of fun and there are clever moments that made my laugh out loud several times.

LET ME IN
Like with most American remakes of Foreign Films this one just didn’t capture what the first one had, and I didn’t really “love” the original. Chloe Moretz did wonderful but I really am a fan of hers.

TRANSMORPHERS
Crap! Couldn’t make it 7 minutes in. Maybe I will try again drunk someday.

All these flicks are available on Netflix Instant Watch so go check them out (or don’t) for yourself. Remember this is just my two cents, spend it as you wish.

Wuv, Twue Wuv!

Many of us did not have to fight hordes of bad guys to rescue our love. We didn't need an overwhelmingly grand gesture to win her over or bring him back to life with a kiss. Many of our daily romantic encounters involve a cup of coffee or simply offering a coat in cooler weather. Sometimes we watch romantic movies and think to ourself...BULLSHIT!
Romance films can often convey an unrealistic view of how relationships work and how we even go about our search for the 'one true love' that may or may not even be out there. However, there are those films out there that do walk the line between melodramatic and just plain stupid; and here at Zombie vs Shark we feel WAKING DREAMS is one of them.
From filmmaker Deepika Daggubati (on Twitter as @WakingDreamsDD), we find a young woman's wonderful search for her path in life and stumbles upon some romance on the way. Download this week's episode, 'She Beats This Guy Off' to find out all of our thoughts on the film and check out the films' website at http://www.wakingdreamsmovie.com/ and you can also purchase the film at http://www.amazon.com/Waking-Dreams-Jamie-Elman/dp/B0055MCPBA/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1.
Don't forget to scroll down a bit further to see some pictures from our fiery chocolate tasting experience in Plan B Studios...until next week, enjoy!

Flip of the Coin

So to continue my summer movie watching experience my hot wife and I headed to the theater to go see TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON. For the first time since going to see Jurassic Park as I stepped up the ticket gal said the showing was sold out. This was a good sign but did not discourage me in any way because SUPER 8 was playing in just 30 minutes.

I have seen a lot of talk on Twitter and the internet about how great SUPER 8 was. Whenever something is hyped that much it scares me off a bit. However within the first five minutes I was hooked. When it comes to big blockbusters you can’t get much better than Steven Speilberg and J.J. Abrams. But beyond the big explosions and the terrific creature effect lies a ton of heart and great acting by these young kids.
The next day my hot wife and I were still talking about how amazing this movie is. In fact we couldn’t stop thinking and talking about it. That has only happened with a handful of flicks ever. (Inception, Taken, The Dark Knight, City of Lost Children, Clerks).

The next weekend we got our chance to see TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON. With how terrific SUPER 8 was being the Heads side of the coin. DARK OF THE MOON was obviously the shitty Tails side of the Movie Coin.
STRIKE ONE: The first two Transformers flicks started with a kick-butt, action packed, effects laden fight sequence. This starts with a long slow flashback to John Glenn landing on the moon for a “Top Secret” mission. STRIKE TWO: A convoluted story involving a lame character written solely to replace Megan Fox. The character was pointless (minus the usual eye candy required for bad movies) and actually does harm in the form of weakening Megatron’s character. STRIKE THREE: At almost three hours you’ll find yourself several times checking your watch hoping this last fight was the “last” fight. Sadly no just when you think it’s over there’s a couple more fights.

So if you are gonna flip that coin this summer. Please let it land on heads and don’t waste the money on a crap money grubbing piece of crap.

It’s just my two cents, spend it as you wish.

This Is What Lies Beyond Infinity

Have you ever felt like you have lost your purpose in life? Been lost in a strange place? Felt like you had something to prove? Lost someone you loved more than yourself? Fought to move forward in life? Then Pixar has your story!
With 'I've Spoken Enough' we explore the impact of Pixar on the motion picture landscape. Download the show and check out some of the films, each one as touching and heartwarming as any film you have seen. Pixar's focus is on story driven scripts with feeling as the rest of Hollywood seemingly moves in the opposite direction (we are looking at you 3-D). Pick any one of their 12 films available to start with; their success may very well be unparalleled...just make sure you have a plenty of tissue!

It's Good To Be Bad

It has been said that a story is only as good as it's villain. This may ring especially true when it comes to comics, as each hero succeeds in defeating a foe, another villain must rise up to challenge them. This leaves us with a small number of heroes and an ever increasing legion of villains!
'My Old Prison Nickname' will explore some of our favorite villains in the comic world. These are not ranked, but find out if your favorite villain gets a mention or let us know if you learned of a new villain you may never have heard of. Also, we have a special treat for everyone...
We finish up this week's episode with an interview from filmmaker Lori Bowen (@kimyoofilms on Twitter) and a review of three of her short films AFTERSHOCK, A HAMMER FELL IN JERUSALEM: ANATHEMA & A HAMMER FELL IN JERUSALEM: AND BE AT REST (a prequel). You can find more news and info about Lori by going to her website http://kimyoo-films.blogspot.com/ or by emailing her at kimyoo.films@gmail.com. Until next week folks, enjoy the show!
