I don't wanna rock DJ

Recently I have been hired to DJ a wedding. I can not wait as any of the listeners who made it to the ZvS New Year's BASH know I LOVE TO DJ A GOOD PARTY!
As I sat with the happy couple discussing how the day will go it dawned on me just how many songs get played at weddings all over this country that honestly should have never been played at a wedding to begin with, tons of songs that have been so overplayed at weddings everyone should just STOP already, and then there are those that are so fucking annoying that we should just call it quits.
Here are some of those songs...

WHITE WEDDING- Billy Idol
Just do a quick search on the possible meanings of this song and you will find anything from incest to pregnancy to cocaine. Billy Idol himself has said he is confused that so many folks play this at their weddings. No matter what meaning you find in the lyrics of the song we can all agree this isn't an innocent "love song" that we should find at a beautiful ceremony.

WONDERFUL TONIGHT- Eric Clapton
Let me start by saying I love Clapton. He is amazing at everything he does. This is a terrific song that I have always enjoyed. But let's get down to brass tacks and discuss the STORY played out in this song. An inattentive man and his beautiful wife are going to a party, he gets so shitfaced bombed that she has to leave the party early drive him home and put him to bed. At least he appreciates all she does for him in the end but still not a story you should tell at a wedding.

THE CHICKEN DANCE
Of all the annoying repetitive crap dance songs that people are addicted to this is the worst. And that's saying something because it goes up against the Macarena, the Electric Slide, the Hokey Pokey and most recently the Cha Cha Slide. It digs it's way into your brain and stays there forever. It isn't fun to watch either at least with YMCA and The Time Warp you have some fun dance steps with it. The Chicken Dance I believe was written by Nazis who like to watch your drunk 80 year old grandmother make a fool out of herself.

CELEBRATION- Kool & the Gang
This song falls in the "well duh" category of music. Seriously do we need to be reminded that this is a celebration? I don't think so. I enjoy this song as a fun bit of music but it is overplayed at parties let alone at weddings around the world.

This is just a small spattering of stuff that should be avoided at all costs. Please consider letting the Celine Dion rest, no more John Mayer and his cliche crap, and can we all just leave that fucking song Please, Don't Take the Girl by Tim McGraw alone.

Again my two cents.
Got a song you feel is overplayed at weddings? Leave a comment letting me know.

Speaking Of Sequels

Our first 13 Lucky-List of the second season! Which sequels are as good or better than the originals? We are considering only 'part 2s' for our list, it helps narrow the field. So let the great debate begin! What film will top our list, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey or Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer? Which of your favorites will or will not make the list? Post your films in the comments section below.
So click the link and download 'Smurf Zombies Aside' to hear about number twos that didn't number two! Also don't forget to check out the music from the show on iTunes!

How's YOUR summer movie going been so far?

4 quick reviews from my Summer viewings so far...

1. X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

So this movie has been getting a bad rap for some reason. I thought it was well acted with some cool effects (although I would've still rather seen BEAST (my favorite X-men character) in a practical suit instead of the digital effect they used). Yes the film took some liberties with the whole X-MEN history however if you just take it for what it is, a new story to reboot a franchise, you will enjoy this ride.

2. HANGOVER II

Zach Galifianakis has been quoted in interviews as saying this movie had a better script than the original. Which may have been true IF you have never seen the original. Mostly it's recycled jokes and crude visuals with none of the actual heart of the first one. Yes I said the first one had "heart." I don't want to spoil the two or three laughs I actually got out of this film but they come very late in the game.

3. KUNG FU PANDA 2
I took a class of students to go see this and they all really enjoyed it. It was no where near as good as the first one of course. It did have it's moments though including an awesome and funny villain and terrific fight climactic fight scene. Of course to milk more money out or audiences they set up for a Kung Fu Panda 3. But what I will take most from this movie is the effect of water on the Panda's fur. It glistened and moved like water should. I like my cartoons to get this realistic.

4. GREEN LANTERN
On the flip side however I like my real movies to have real people and not feel like a cartoon. I mean would it kill Hollywood to give us ONE practical effect? The story was just rehashed FIRST FLIGHT script. Ryan Reynolds did a great job, yet to see him do a bad one even in a bad film. I don't know what demon this Blake Lively chick sold her soul to in order to get a career but if there is any way it could take her away now it'd be nice. She is a block of wood with boobs. The film gives you what you were expecting in the build up to a bigger and better story but a word of warning, remember Fantastic Four? A weak first film that promised a great sequel which was just okay.

Just remember all of this is just my two cents. If you were planning on seeing any of these then by all means still go see it. But if you were on the fence I hope these helped.

I Am Nancy!

Heather Langenkamp & Arlene Marechal

After the long wait, we are finally sharing some of our experience from Bleedfest (www.bleedfest.com)! Starting with none other than Heather Langenkamp and her new documentary I AM NANCY. When someone thinks of the 'Nightmare' series, they think of Freddy...but without Nancy there is no Freddy. Yin and Yang!
This week's episode 'I Don't Need Help Exposing Me' explores what Heather and Nancy has meant to the horror genre as well as what she meant to fans. Included in this episode is our interview with Heather and Arlene Marechal (director of I AM NANCY) from the red carpet of Bleedfest; where the documentary had it's West Coast premiere!
We hope you enjoy the episode and don't forget to get your very own copy of the documentary, available at www.iamnancy.net and follow them on Twitter @iamnancydoc.

ZvS Has Fun With Animation!

Zombie vs Shark goes animated with this week's episode, 'I Choked On Douchebaggery'...we wax eloquently about our favorite cartoons not intended for the kiddies. There was quite the array of creators, voices and animated characters discussed in our most recent episode.
From Groening to Judge, Cartwright to Benjamin, Stewie to Harvey Birdman...undoubtedly we forgot to mention one or two favorites, so drop us a line and let us know some of your favs, we would be glad to hear from you all. Oh, and just to be clear, we are not talking about cartoon porn.

Zombie vs Shark Season 2: Electric Boogaloo

Say hello to our little friends, Joe Smith (@elihusmails1978) & Elynnes Parx (@elynnesparx); as they join the cast of Zombie vs Shark, we are very excited...VERY excited! We hope they add to the silent audience voice as we we babble on about whatever amuses us.
What follows in 'That's The Actual Rapture Right There' is some Twitter Feed, T-bag, racial alienation, death, nerf guns, werewolf rape, guitars, hotness and little Jimmy Cameron. We hope you enjoy our new co-hosts as much as we do, they may have some catching up to do but we don't expect it to take long at all!
